I had a lot of misconceptions about babies, having never really spent a lot of time with them. For example, I cut the tags off a lot of Kai's receiving blankets, but now I realize that tags are one of Kai's, and babies in general, favourite things. As I've written before, I had assumptions about cloth diapers and they turned out to be a lot easier and more beneficial than I expected.
Before having a baby, I had never even considered making my own baby food. They make it for you, in easy to store jars, in all the flavours you could want and you can store them for a pretty good amount of time. But once we had Kai, we realized that we want to give him the best chance at a healthy life, so I decided to make my own baby food, despite the work it would take.
And once again I was surprised by how much easier the natural option was than I expected. In less than an hour, I can make days or even weeks worth of food that doesn't have any preservatives, or extra salt or sugar, food that I would even eat.
So far, I've made peas, beans, zucchini, carrots, sweet potato and butternut squash. Kai hasn't loved them all, but we'll try again in a couple weeks and I've got tons of little cubes in my freezer so I can defrost exactly what I need. Plus, I feel like a pretty good mom feeding Kai healthy homemade food. Win win.
Let me know which storage method you like best for your homemade food. I'm going to be making my own baby food for Vienna and I'm debating on how best to store it (but I have a bit of time before I have to decide).
