Instead, let's talk about the party! We just had a small shindig with family. Everyone came over on the afternoon of the 8th for a BBQ and cake and gifts.
We put Kai down for a nap at noon because people were coming at 1 or 2. They arrived closer to 1 and Kai slept until almost 3:30! So we had lunch and sat around and chatted, waiting for the birthday boy to join his own party.
When he finally got up, we had a great time opening gifts. He was spoiled of course, but it was a good variety of gifts and he really enjoyed them all.
Next it was cake time! I decided to be ambitious and make a cake I saw on Pinterest – a rainbow cake. I found gel food colouring that makes brighter colours and make the cake and the icing and it was delicious. Then I added the colouring and the icing did not taste good to me anymore. I panicked a little. We went out and bought a back-up cake just in case this cake bombed. At least it would look good.
As it turned out, it didn't matter. Kai seemed to love it and everyone else enjoyed it to. Except my dad who was afraid to try it. It was pretty bright.
Snax loved it too...
We spent the rest of the afternoon enjoying the beautiful weather. Kai loved hanging out with everyone. Happy birthday Kai!
