Waterbaby

We decided to put Kai in swimming lessons when he turned 6 months to help him develop a love for the water. With my parents living on the water, and AJ's family cottage, we plan to spend lots of time near water and we want Kai to be comfortable and safe. Not to mention that AJ loves all kinds of water sports and we'd love to have Kai join him in doing those things when he's older.

Kyler seemed to enjoy swimming lessons right away. It probably took me a bit longer to warm up to it than him. There is a lot of group singing and actions involved, which is a little cheesy for my tastes, but it's immediately obvious that the kids love it, so I learned to enjoy it.

There were 9 other kids in the class, between 4 months and 8 months at the start of the lessons. Kai, at 6 months, was the biggest of all of them.

By the third class, we would walk into the water and Kai would immediately start splashing and wouldn't stop until we got out. This transferred into bath time as well, which is messy, but at least he's having fun.

At class 5, we put the babies underwater. "Dunk dunk went the little green frog." It was like the instructor said, it was much more traumatic for the parents than the babies. They come out of the water surprised, but as long as we smile, they figure everything is ok.

The last session was the only one where photos are allowed, so AJ took a half day off to join us in the pool and get some photos.

He didn't exactly love the slide...
